Cashmere is special in many ways and this has made it a darling to many people. Despite this being the case there is a lot that people don’t know about cashmere and we have decided to share 10 amazing facts about cashmere that you probably didn’t know.

  1. Cashmere is one of the world’s rarest material and it got its name from goats that live in a region called Kashmir by the border of India and Pakistan.
  2. Cashmere is obtained by combing the lower hairs of cashmere goats.
  3. The best factories for processing for cashmere wool into ready garments are found in Europe with Italy and Scotland leading the pack. The oldest factory that is still actively producing cashmere garments is found in Scotland in a city called Elgin. The factory was established in 1797.
  4. Cashmere fabric is very thin but it is still offers great insulation capabilities. Cashmere garments are able to keep its wearers warm even when the temperatures get as low as -40’ C.
  5. To make one average-size sweater, you require cashmere wool from about 4 goats.
  6. Clothes made of cashmere wool retain their original shape even after a prolonged period of use.
  7. Cashmere wool comes in three color variants – white, grey and brown, but it can still be dyed into different colors.
  8. An individual cashmere fiber string is six times finer than human hair.
  9. Cashmere wool is normally woven into two-ply yarn. This gives the yarn better characteristics such as resistance to different weather conditions and a long lasting property.
